Limit Your Exposure To Screens
The United States Department of Health & Human Services suggests people limit exposure to screens such as computer monitors and television sets to less than two hours per day. According to a recent study published in the Journal of Pediatrics, however, today's children are exceeding the recommended maximum exposure time by 66%. To make matters worse, millions of jobs also require workers to sit behind some sort of screen that could be potentially harming their eyes. A Healthier Michigan notes that when users focus on a screen for a long time, the small muscles in the eyes remain contracted, resulting in fatigue, blurred vision and an inability to focus. While a typical person blinks between 12 and 15 times a minute, when focused on a screen, blinking can be reduced to between four and five times per minute, leading to dry and scratchy eyes.
The artificial backlighting most screens employ can also cause eyes to constrict depending on the screen's brightness, and maintain the same focus for long periods of time. Staring at a screen can also cause sensitivity to light, which could lead to blurred vision, headaches and problems focusing, also known as "Computer Vision Syndrome," or even more serious problems. CVS affects an estimated 150 to 200 million U.S. workers, and has contributed to a 66% increase in nearsightedness over the past 25 years.
As with most things, too much of exposure to anything can be harmful to one's health. In order to prevent your eyes from suffering, it is recommended that users take frequent breaks from their screens, sit as far away as possible, and use glare protectors to reduce the amount of light projected into the eye.

Mobile Phone ,Curse or Blessing ?
One Friday morning, John woke up hurriedly and prepared for work. He worked in a busy institution and was expected early at work. His wife worked a distance from where her husband's office was.
As a result of doing things in a hurry, John unknowingly, carried his wife's mobile phone leaving behind his own. After he had gone his wife Jane noticed the mix-up but it was too late for her to do anything about it. She thought for a while and decided to carry her husband's phone in case he came back for it.
On arriving at his place of work John noticed that he had confused his wife's phone for his but decided not to go back for it. He sighed deeply because he knew his wife could access romantic messages sent by his many mistresses.
His wife too was disgusted because she had several toy boys.
Drama began to unfold when John received an SMS intended for his wife sent by somebody saved as ' Peter-Taxi ', which read, " Hi sweetie, ope yo monin' is fine, 4 me am okay just mad! My love 4 you kills me. I couldn't stop dreaming about you even after we met last evening coz you hold the password to ma heart. " John was shocked to see this and thought he understood why his wife had come home late the previous evening. He decided to stay mum to see what more would come.
After one hour he received another SMS from somebody saved as ' Susan-Salon ' which read, " Monin darling, ope ur fine, am also fine but not so fine without seeing you next to me coz you control every part of ma heart. Nice day sweetie, see you at lunch. "
The third SMS ticked in from somebody saved as ' Winnie-Handbags ' which read, " Monin ma beautiful queen, I wish you were a gum, I would chew you every time, you make me feel young like I was born yesterday, you without whom I would go on a hunger strike. Have a bright day ma dear. "
John was deeply shocked by these messages but knew that on the other side his wife might be seeing drama too.
Meanwhile, Jane had seen even more than her husband. She had received three messages from three women that clearly showed they were his mistresses. The first SMS was from a woman saved as ' Rita Car wash ' which read, " Hi deah how's ur monin? 4 me am okay with ur son here, he says he loves you so much n you should come n stay with us. gday. "
Jane almost fainted on seeing this because she could not believe that her husband had a son outside marriage.
Before her anger was over, she received a second SMS from' ' Belinda ' which read, " Monin ma deah, ope ur enjoyin ur day. Mine can't be complete without you. Every time I sleep in this house you bought 4 me I dream 2 love u always. The BM u bought me is perfect on road. Thanks, g'day. "
The last message came from ' Ama - Kumasi ' and read, " Hi honey, how are you? I just want to tell you that my monthly allowance is just not enough. The cost of looking beautiful is very high and my books are expensive. By the way how is that silly wife of yours, when is she finally leaving you?. "
Jane had found the answer to why her husband was always penniless!
When evening came John and Jane met at home. They could hardly talk but only stared at one another with suspicion.

Microsoft looks to sell ‘a few million’ Surface tablets in 2013
Microsoft announced on Monday during its annual Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto that it has high hopes for its Surface tablet. The company and its partners are looking to sell 375 million PCs in 2013, "a few million" of which will be Surface tablets, ZDNet reported. The software giant's outlook is more optimistic than even some of its partners, which claim the Surface will flop due to low customer interest. Microsoft unveiled its upcoming line of Surface tablets during a press conference last month and while pricing has not yet been announced, the slate is expected to launch this fall.

Three Sons
Three sons left home, went out on their own and prospered.
Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother.
The first said, "I built a big house for our mother."
The second said, "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver."
The third smiled and said, "I've got you, both beat.
You know how Mom enjoys the Bible, and you know she can't see very well.
I sent her a brown parrot that can recite the entire Bible.
It took 20 monks in a monastery 12 years to teach him.
I had to pledge to contribute $100,000.00 a year for 10 years, but it was worth it .
Mom just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot will recite it."
Soon thereafter, Mom sent out her letters of thanks to her sons.
" Milton ," she wrote the first son, "The house you built is so huge.
I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house ! ."
"Marvin," she wrote to the second, "I am too old to travel.
I stay home all the time, so I never use the Mercedes.
And the driver is so rude!"
"Dearest Melvin," she wrote to her third son, "You were the only son to have the good sense to know what your mother likes.
That chicken was delicious!"

SUDDENLY THERE WAS A BEEPING SOUND.
THE YOUNG WOMAN PRESSED HER FOREARM AND THE BEEP STOPPED.
THE OTHERS LOOKED AT HER QUESTIONINGLY.
'THAT WAS MY PAGER,' SHE SAID.
I HAVE A MICROCHIP UNDER THE SKIN OF MY ARM.
A FEW MINUTES LATER, A PHONE RANG.
THE SECOND YOUNG WOMAN LIFTED HER PALM TO HER EAR.
WHEN SHE FINISHED, SHE EXPLAINED, 'THAT WAS MY MOBILE PHONE.
I HAVE A MICROCHIP IN MY HAND.'
THE OLDER WOMAN FELT VERY LOW -TECH.
NOT TO BE OUT DONE, SHE DECIDED SHE HAD TO DO SOMETHING JUST AS IMPRESSIVE.
SHE STEPPED OUT OF THE SAUNA AND WENT TO THE BATHROOM.
SHE RETURNED WITH A PIECE OF TOILET PAPER HANGING FROM HER REAR END.
THE OTHERS RAISED THEIR EYEBROWS AND STARED AT HER..
THE OLDER WOMAN FINALLY SAID.........WELL, WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT....I'M GETTING A FAX!!

Glo SIM cost only GHc1 and a call per minute on Glo is 8Gp but with 100% bonus (for 100 days) on every recharge the effective call tariff is way less than 8Gp
This is possible because the Glo Ghana network has now been activated and the first official call was made on the network between National Media Commission (NMC) Chairman, Ambassador Kabral Blay-Amihere, and Globacom Executive Director for Human Resource, Adewale Sangowawa at a press launch of Glo Ghana's commercial services.
But due to SIM registration procedures, new Glo customers might have to wait for a while for their registration particulars to be verified and validated before their Glo SIM could be activated.
Glo's launch on Sunday brought a three-year long wait to an end, and it came only after the National Communication Authority (NCA) had fined Glo $200,000 for failure to launch and cover at least six regions in the country within two years of its license, which was in 2008.
But Glo Ghana Chief Operating Officer (COO), George Andah told journalists the long wait was not a waste because for every extra day Ghanaians waited, Glo was planning and working on relevant packages and offerings that would excite Ghanaians.
Evidence of that was the company starting with 85% coverage of Ghana, providing services in 974 cities and 10,000 villages, and also starting with some of the juiciest offers the industry could offer.
For starters, all new customers on Glo would get 20Gp credit free everyday for the first 100 days they joined Glo, and George Andah said that was about three minutes of call free on Glo for 100 days just for being a customer.
He said beside the free 20Gp every day, new customers also would get up to 100% bonus on every recharge, five hours free night calls for spending just 10Gp in a whole day, one minute bonus to call any network for every three minutes of calls received, and one special phone number (Sweet Number) that a customer could call for only 2Gp per minute.
"Glo SIM cost only GHS1 and a call per minute on Glo is 8Gp but with 100% bonus on every recharge the effective call tariff is way less than 8Gp," Andah said.
The company also assured Ghanaians of the most competitive international call rates, not much different from domestic call tariffs.
There were other offers that enabled customers to have the latest news, sports, entertainment and weather updates on their Glo 128kb SIM cards, whiles a service called Sharp-Sharp also allowed electronic tranfer of credit on the go.
George Andah said those offers came on the back of Glo's superior $750 million-worth world class network comprising 1,400 BTS, the popular 2.5 terabit/sec Glo One submarine cable, with some 2,900km terrestrial spread into Ghana, which also made 80% of Glo BTSs 3G (UMTS.
He noted that 1.5 million people had already reserved their special Glo numbers on a network that was ready to accommodate at least 10 million customers for starters, "which means one out of every two Ghanaian can be on the Glo network without it getting congested."
The Glo Ghana boss said with the superior infrastructure Glo had installed, it could assure Ghanaians of the fastest upload and download internet speeds in country, and the best quality voice calls from everywhere on the soils of Ghana.
"We are starting with 1,400 BTS which makes us the second biggest network in the country in terms of coverage but the rate at which we are going, we would reach 2,300 BTS by the close of 2012 and that will make Glo the largest network in terms of coverage in Ghana," he said.
He said the company had already seated 500 Customer Care staff at the 25 GloWorld Stores, who are ready to receive over 200,000 calls in a day serving customers' various needs.
|
He expressed special gratitude to President John Evans Ata Mills "whose Presidential Proclamation and help substantially removed some of the stumbling blocks we had encountered in the process of rolling out this network."
Ambassador Blay-Amihere, who presided and turned the key to activate the Glo Ghana network, expressed the hope that Glo's arrival would add value to the telecom landscape.
He said Ghana was moving towards where everyone required quality service and Glo could only survive in the market if it could assure Ghanaians of quality of service and value for money.
The launch did not go down without some very catchy television commercials involving all of Glo Ghana's ambassadors, who also closed the show with a special Glo song they had recorded.
Some of the ambassadors expressed joy about the fact that Glo's launch released them into action as many shows and festival had been planned for them to perform, and others encouraged their fans to switch to Glo.

Glo Mobile Ghana launches with mouthwatering offers
The long-awaited launch successfully took place on Sunday after a series of postponements and a recent fine of $200,000 by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for its failure to launch on the stipulated date of April 20, 2012.
Glo Mobile Ghana, a subsidiary of Globacom International - a Nigerian-based telecom giant – currently has 1.5 million people, who have reserved their numbers on their 0233 number reservation series.
According to the Chief Operating Officer of Glo Mobile Ghana, George Andah, would-be subscribers can start making calls from Monday and to appease anxious customers, who have been waiting for long, the network will be accessible in all 10 regions of Ghana.
Glo covers about 85% of land mass in the country and its reception covers 1,000 cities and towns in Ghana.
Mr. Andah disclosed that Glo is offering free and unconditional GhC 0.20p daily for the next 100 days to every customer - whether one makes calls or otherwise. To add to that, subscribers will enjoy a 100% bonus on recharge plus another bonus on incoming calls.
There will also be GhC 0.2p per minute calls for two special people as well as other bonuses for receiving or making international calls.

Security hole in Facebook and Dropbox apps leave iOS users vulnerable
U.K.-based Android and iOS app developer Gareth Wright recently discovered a security hole in Facebook's native mobile apps that can be used to steal a user's personal information. Facebook's Android and iOS apps do not encrypt login credentials, instead storing them in plain text files and allowing the information to be easily accessed and transferred over a USB connection, or more likely, through a malicious app. Wright explained in a blog post that Facebook's plist file, or property list file containing personal data, is stored insecurely and not set to expire for 2,000 years. Once a plist file is copied to another device, one can simply open the normal Facebook app and will automatically be logged in the user's account. Wright's claims were confirmed by TheNextWeb, which also discovered that Dropbox's iOS app includes the same security hole. The vulnerabilities do not require a device to be jailbroken or rooted, and exploits can be performed with a simple file explorer.
Update: Dropbox reached out to BGR regarding the issue, the company's statement can be found after the break.
"Dropbox's Android app is not impacted because it stores access tokens in a protected location," the company said. "We are currently updating our iOS app to do the same. We note that the attack in question requires a malicious actor to have physical access to a user's device. In a situation like that, a user is susceptible to all sorts of threats, so we strongly advise safeguarding devices."

NCA fines Glo Mobile $200,000 for failing to launch
Glo Mobile Ghana has been sanctioned to pay an amount of $200,000 for its failure to launch on the stipulated date of April 20, 2012.
The sanction was confirmed by the Communications Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who said: "Glo has no justification not to launch onto the Ghanaian market."
He added: "The Ghanaian subscribers and consumers anticipating their service can no longer wait."
The regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA), gave Glo Ghana up to the end of April to launch or face sanctions ranging from payment of a fine to the withdrawal of its license.
Mr. Iddrisu said Glo Mobile had initially expressed some concerns which they said were hindering them from launching, but Mr. Haruna indicated that "they were required to roll out in at least six regions of Ghana and to be fair to them there were some initial hitches to which government in itself through its actions contributed, we resolved those issues and Glo has no justification for not launching."
Glo Mobile Ghana, a subsidiary of Globacom International – a Nigerian-based telecom giant is the sixth mobile operator, licensed to operate in Ghana but has continually postponed the launch of its operations for almost five years now.
Glo earlier this year launched its number reservation facility which enables the public to reserve their numbers on the 023-3 number series on the Glo Mobile Ghana Network.
Speaking on Joy FM on Monday, the Communications Minister said: "Government accordingly licensed the sixth mobile operator as part of government's quest to deepen competition in the telecommunication industry. It thus appears that Glo Mobile is unable to meet some requirements which was part of the Glo Mobile cellular license framework.
"Spectrum space is an asset of the State so accordingly I can confirm to you that the NCA has issued a sanction that Glo Mobile will be required to pay US$ 200, 000 or its equivalent in cedis for failing to provide service at least to six regions within the first three years that they got their license."
He added: "They assured to roll out April 20. They must take Ghanaian subscribers serious and we need their service to expand access to telecom. Investors must respect the laws of our country. We have been hesitant to have gone this far, but we ultimately must ensure that we deepen competition as we pledged."

GLO Likely To Face NCA Sanctions
The National Communications Authority (NCA) is undecided on whether to sanction or withdraw the license of Globacom Ghana if it fails to meet a deadline to launch its commercial operations.
The Nigerian based telecom giant received the licence to operate in Ghana in 2008.
It has since been unable to launch commercial activity in the country after a number of announcements to do so.
The NCA issued a Mid-April ultimatum to GLO Ghana to launch or face sanctions ranging from penalty fines to complete withdrawal of licence.
The Deputy Director in charge of Communications and Consumer Services at the NCA, Mawuko Zomelo in an interview with XYZ BUSINESS stated that the Authority will not hesitate to apply the necessary sanctions if the company fails to launch by the deadline.

‘Anonymous’ hackers plan to shut down the Internet this Saturday
Notorious hacker group Anonymous has previously stated its intentions to shutdown the Internet on Saturday, March 31st, as a form of protest. "To protest SOPA, Wallstreet, our irresponsible leaders and the beloved bankers who are starving the world for their own selfish needs out of sheer sadistic fun, on March 31, anonymous will shut the Internet down," the group stated last month. "Remember, this is a protest, we are not trying to 'kill' the Internet we are only temporarily shutting it down where it hurts the most." Operation Global Blackout 2012 looks to shut down the Internet by disabling its core DNS servers, thus making websites inaccessible. Cyber security experts claim that it is unlikely that such an attack would be effective, however, and there is really no need to fear. Read on for more.
"The Anonymous hackers can certain cause local pockets of disruption, but these disruptions are going to be localized to networks where their attack machines are located, or where their 'reflectors' are located", said Robert Graham of Errata Security. "It's unlikely they could take all of them down, at least for any period of time. On the day of their planned Global Blackout, it's doubtful many people would notice."

EXTRAORDINARY LIVING (2)
STDs - we know them as sexually transmitted diseases, infections that are most often but not exclusively spread by sexual intercourse. They are among the most common contagious disease. But there's another kind of 'STD' that exists in the church: Spiritually Transmitted Diseases. Just like any infection, they are highly contagious, quickly spread and can damage our lives considerably if not treated. This kind of STD waters down God's words and weakens; bringing doubts, wrong thought patterns and a misguided way to live.

EXTRAORDINARY LIVING
If you're intentional about it, your faith will grow. If you're lazy,
it won't! It's that simple. Like a river erodes a riverbank, your
faith can wear away just from living every day. If you don't do
anything to secure and strengthen your faith it will begin to
deteriorate - and you can count on that! Hebrews 11:6 NIV tells us
that, 'Without faith it is impossible to please God' so living by
faith needs to be the top of our daily agenda.
'Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not
see' (Hebrews 11:1 NIV) It's being God-confident - relying on God to
guide you through life. Henry Blackaby wrote: 'The kind of assignments
God gives in the Bible are always God-sized. They are always beyond
what people can do, because He wants to demonstrate His nature, His
strength, His provision and His kindness to His people and to a
watching world. That is the only way the world will come to know Him.'
God wants us to do things for Him that we can only do with His help,
because only then will we experience God at work in our lives, only
then will people see how great God is. Live by faith, take on
God-sized jobs and God-sized challenges - do something that you can
only accomplish with God's help.
What now? What extraordinary thing could you do today, where you need
to totally rely on God's help in order to do it? It could be small or
big.

LIFE IN A ROCKING CHAIR
Are you spending too much time beating yourself up? If so, it's time
to stop! In a series of talks entitled 'Beauty for Ashes', Christian
speaker Joyce Meyer says 'don't waste time on things that produce
nothing good in your life.
Stop doing things that don't help you progress.' For many reasons we
can think badly about ourselves. Guilt, anger and shame are just a
few. Joyce compares them to living life in a rocking chair: 'the
thoughts will keep you busy, tire you out, but get you nowhere! You'll
go through life, simply rocking back and forth in your own misery.'
God doesn't want you to feel bad about yourself and confession deals
with it. First John 1:9 (NLT) says, 'If we confess our sins to Him, He
is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
wickedness.' God promises that when we ask for forgiveness, 'I'll wipe
the slate clean for each of them. I'll forget they ever sinned!'
Forgiveness comes by faith, not feelings. As long as you live by
feelings, satan has a weapon he can use against you at every turn. But
as long as you truly repent, whatever you have done is pardonable.
Once God's forgotten it, it's gone, so how can you still feel guilty
about something that doesn't exist? We may feel like we're condemned,
but we need to start living like we're not: 'There is no condemnation
for those who belong to Christ Jesus.'
What now? Settle yourself. Rest for a while and think over the fact
that there is no condemnation for anything you have done. Read Isaiah
49.15-16 if you need something to focus on.

THE RUMOUR MILL
A conversation involving malicious chatter or rumours about other
people - that's gossip. But, oh how we can love it and indulge in it
every day! A quick Facebook status change here, a sneaky text there as
well as lunchtime chatter and banter. Then of course there's the
gossip columns, magazines and even TV and radio programmes spouting it
out. It's hard to keep away from it.
A person who habitually spreads intimate or private rumours or facts -
that's a gossiper. Not really something we'd want on our CV or online
dating profile is it? That's because deep down, we know gossip for
what it is. A weapon of mass social destruction, designed to break and
tear down an individual, friendship group, or community.
The moment somebody begins to gossip stop them and ask, 'Why do I need
to know this? Have you talked to the person you're talking about?'
Wise up; people who gossip can't be trusted! But what does the good
book say about dealing with gossip? Well, I'm glad you asked!
'Listening to gossip is like eating cheap candy; do you want junk like
that in your belly?' (Proverbs 26:22 TM).
'Gossips can't keep secrets, so never confide in blabbermouths'
(Proverbs 20:19 TM). 'When a leader listens to malicious gossip, all
the workers get infected with evil' (Proverbs 29:12 TM). 'When you run
out of wood, the fire goes out; when the gossip ends, the quarrel dies
down' (Proverbs 26:20 TM).
God's word speaks the truth, so get rid of gossip before it weaves
itself into the fabric of your everyday speech. '...Quit gossiping
about other people's sins ... and ... Your lives will begin to
glow...' (Isaiah 58:9TM).
What now? As you're chatting with your family and friends today, crack
down on gossip before it even makes it out of your mouth. Refuse to
give or receive gossip.

Inspiration : BITTER LEMONS AND DIRTY ASHES
BITTER LEMONS AND DIRTY ASHES |
...We stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God... 2 Corinthians 1:9 |
Down in the dumps today? Feeling like the world and its mother is against you, and even God Himself has got it in for you? Life doesn't always turn out the way we plan or hope, does it? It would be great to have instant power to pass that exam, make that guy fancy us, grow a money tree, stop those bullies, take away the fear, stress, pain, unfairness. But we don't. When life throws us bitter lemons and dirty ashes, thinking positively and relying on God is often at the bottom of our agenda. It's hard to look forward to tomorrow when all around is a raincloud of doom. How can we believe that God truly loves us when the mess we're in doesn't seem to change? How can we trust God is there for us when it doesn't even feel like He's listening to our prayers? How can we rely on Him to help? After all, He could have kept Joseph out of prison (but didn't), stopped Daniel being thrown into a den of lions (but never did), or made sure Paul wasn't shipwrecked (but it happened anyway). Take a closer look as to what else happened. As a result of their painful near- death experiences, they got to know God more and the result was that they impacted the world around them. With God, your best moments will often follow the worst times. What now? Take strength from 1 Peter 4:12-13 and memorise God's promise to you in Romans 8:28. |
